  • Growing up as a child of God in the community of St. John Lutheran church was a treasure I shall carry with me all my life. Growing in the Word and Faith with my fellow classmates; and living around the Christian parents as Christian roll models was so very helpful to me and the others to help us build good character.
All those who were in my confirmation class are today successful individuals.
As for me I will continue witnessing to the joy of the Lord and instructing my grand children as I have been instructed.
My parents were charter members when the new building was built. What a beautiful sight...all the families working together to build it. I tell my grand children and Brother Bill Thompson he has a special relationship with Jesus. When the old church was being torn down, he fell on a board with nails in it and sustained some puncture wounds.
Yummy memories were when the Women of the Church prepared that Chicken Noodle soup for fundraisers. I still try to imitate it but the flavor just is not there. I think the flavor is in free range chicken.
Reflecting back, I recall those cold snowing nights when we would go caroling. One night as we sang to a shut in over behind Welch's' Grocery store, a big white owl flew silently over us, as though to say, God is with you. It was truly a "all is calm" moment. Just for that moment peace was on the earth. We were surrounded with peace. Amen.

With joy and a great faith I was confirmed in my faith, at St. Johns' through those faithful members; now most are passed. But they left a great legacy. Have you? Is it a legacy you can be proud of?
God's Blessings to the faithful members of St. John Lutheran Arlington, Iowa,
    Judy Thompson Doyle
